When You Just Can’t Take It Anymore

Fed Up!
Apr 2020

You know how you can go along with some things for a time which seem ‘okay’, at least bearable, someone’s performance is ‘good enough’ or your own level of fulfillment is ‘adequate”?   And then something happens out of the blue and all of a sudden, you are fed up and just can’t take any of it anymore?  It does not have to be a big thing or a life-changing thing, just some little thing that has everything else cave in.  The proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

It happened to me today.  I learned that golf courses opened in Kelowna, B.C.  Not only are our courses not open, we still have snow on the ground in Calgary. Really, I just can’t take this isolation, crappy weather and bleak outlook for my favourite summer sport any more.

Nothing went right today after I heard the news.  I felt cranky, my lap top was cranky, something I was waiting for did not get done in a timely manner, my day felt like a huge waste of time and I continued to feel out of sorts.

This could be a ‘good’ thing or a ‘bad’ thing depending on how one might look at it. Anger and its close cousin Frustration are messengers to let us know that either we are resisting ‘what is’ – things we cannot change.  Or, we are being made aware, it is time to reconsider our options.  It takes both psychic and physical energy to make changes in our lives.   Anger energy can be a catalyst to get us to shift gears – give up former habits, make course corrections or pack it all in and start something completely new.

Resist the temptation to blame whatever it is causing you to feel furious or frustrated.  Those things, situations or people are only the messengers, it is up to us to receive the message.  Go within and ask yourself, what am I being shown here?   Is there something I have not been ignoring that requires my attention?  You know how the ‘Universe’ is so good at delivering a message with a bigger 2×4?
