I was led to believe that if I worked very hard, became markedly successful and made lots of money, I would somehow ‘arrive’ at a place where I would feel happy, fulfilled and free.
What I discovered was there was no arriving. Over time, my career and business success left me feeling anxious and irritable, having less time for myself and perpetually exhausted. I was overcommitted, overworking and overwhelmed.
Our culture offers the premise that our happiness and well-being are something we strive for. That somehow it is ‘out there’ in the realm of accomplishments, recognition and material wealth.
